Reflections on my 20s
So, I turned 30. It is so strange. Birthdays always make me feel really nostalgic and reflective, and I've decided to do one of those totally cliche posts about what I would have told my 20 year old self about the next 10 years.
1. Don't worry so much- my 20s, especially the mid to late ones were filled with worry, mostly about when my life would actually "start". I was too busy trying to figure out the next step instead of enjoying the amazing experiences I was actually having. Don't worry about finding the right guy, career, apartment, etc.. everything will fall in to place, not how you think it will, but everything will be okay, and probably even better than you could have ever expected.
2. Be confident- not arrogant, but trust in yourself, know your worth, know that you can contribute something. Always have your own back.
3. Don't rush- stop trying to rush to the next thing/year. One day you will look up and be 30...and wonder where the last 10 years have gone.
4. Stop trying to keep up- friends start to get married, have kids, settle down, find careers, don't let that phase you. Be happy for them and find your own path...back to the last point- don't rush!
5. Always be yourself- the right people will come into your life, love you for the way you are, and all the others don't really matter.
6. Know what you stand for- Use this time to find your own voice and don't be afraid to stick to your principles. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for making a choice or for what you feel.
7. Appreciate what you have- appreciate your health, your body, your mind. Appreciate every moment of abundance, and the friendships you have, because things change so quickly, and one day these things might be gone.
Remember that things are never as bad as they seem, nature is always a good place to go to calm down and for reflection, keep yourself in good health, and enjoy this time! My 20s felt like the best time of my life, a time of tremendous personal discovery and growth. And I hope I can look back on my 30s with the same fondness.
