On to a new adventure
It's so easy to get caught up in our day to day routines that we lose sight of or just ignore the bigger picture. It's not until something major comes along to help up put things back into perspective. That something major for me, was a move to Germany. That meant, leaving behind all that we had worked for in Ireland, the community that we had become a part of, and leaving a lot of great patients behind for me. Not only was it it a move of countries, it was a big change of cultures, and a change of language (which I think is the most difficult thing).
The last month in Ireland was one of the best months I had during the entire time we were there! In the sense that it wasn't until that last month that I realized the impact that the country had on me and the impact that I had made in the community. The outpouring of gratitude, "thank yous", dinners out, invites into homes, cards, and gifts were overwhelming. I honestly had no idea that I was doing that much good for people... Really. Being in practice everyday and seeing all these people, I knew I was helping, but I didn't realize the impact, because I was caught up in the small details and never took time to look at the big picture.
A couple of weeks ago I was looking back through my journal and saw an entry from right before my graduation, and one of the goals I had in there was, " my purpose in life is to give hope and health to as many people around the world that I can using my hands, heart, and mind, and to make a difference in the community that I work in." This hit me so hard, because I realized that the whole time I had been thinking that I wasn't really doing that well, it turns out that everything that I was doing in Ireland was aligned with all the goals I set for myself! (maybe I should keep my goals posted somewhere more visible from now on!)
Basically what I want to say is THANK YOU to everyone that I met or interacted with or treated in Ireland, you impacted me more than you know. :) And helped me to learn and grow, and that's the whole point right, to keep learning, bettering yourself, and growing. And now putting myself out there in a new country and language, will hopefully help me continue that growth, and gain lots of new experiences!
