Christmas markets in Cologne
Christmas season in Germany is officially started when the first Christmas market is open. Here in Cologne, the first opened the middle of November. In my opinion they are one of the must-see things to do during a trip to Germany in the winter time.
It's hard to describe what makes the markets so special. There is a festive vibe in the air, the once empty squares are filled with charming little huts and houses with sellers ranging from wood figurines, to traditional German food, to clothing, candles, and of course a German favorite Glühwein, which is delicious mulled wine.
Here in Cologne there is also a market with an ice skating ring, which I had not seen before in a Christmas market. There are something like 7-8 different markets here, and it really helps to put you in the holiday spirit.
We were at three different ones last weekend, check out the pictures of our experiences!
