4 Years Abroad

Every year when July rolls around, it marks another year of me living outside of the USA.  It's only been 4 years, but somehow it feels much longer to me. Probably because of all the things that have happened during those four years.

2013- Welcome to the other side of the world. Got on a plane with my life packed into one suitcase, unsure if things would actually work out, and if I would be able to get a work permit. I did finally get my work permit for Ireland.

2014- work, work, work, figuring things out. Most of 2014 was spent working, and figuring out how to be a full time worker. Since I graduated pretty close before I moved over, I didn't have much working experience. Adjusting to being abroad,  a new culture, and a new job. Trying to understand the Irish accent, jokes, and food.

2015- work, work,  commitments, and revelations. By the end of 2015, we both realized that Ireland was not the place that we wanted to be. 2015 was a year of big changes, big commitments, and finally realizing my own voice when it comes to work. Realizing my values in work, and figuring out that to connect to my patients, all I had to do was be myself, not trying to be some version of a "professional chiropractor" that was in my head.

2016- A new adventure, and a new language. the first half of 2016 was spent in Ireland working hard, experiencing as much as we could in the country, and spending as much time with our friends there as we could. It was a great last few months. We made preparations for our move to Germany. Come August we said goodbye to Ireland and hello to Deutschland.

2017- Community, travel, new friends. 2017 has been great so far. We have done a lot of traveling since we have been here in Germany, met so many new people, some of which have become good friends. We are working hard as well, but also trying to live our life to the fullest. When you are sitting on your balcony, watching the sunset with a bottle of wine, its hard not to think about how good your life is at the moment.

An amazing adventure, an end not in sight. I love living abroad, speaking a 2nd language, meeting people from all over the world, traveling during the weekends, exposing my family to new cultures as well, filling up my passport, and living a truly international life. We are so blessed, and I am so grateful for all I have been able to experience. The bad and the good moments, looking back its all been an incredible experience.
