2.5 weeks in Southeast Asia- part 2

First off.. Happy new year, even though we are already 20 days into 2019. The second part of our trip in Southeast Asia was in Malaysia- we didn't get much time in this country, and spent most of it in and around Kuala Lumpur. So, here's the story.

Malaysia

After Singapore, we decided to take the bus up to Kuala Lumpur. The bus ride itself was something like 6-7 hours- we were hoping to see some of the countryside on the way up. There was one small break at customs and another stop for lunch. The first thing we noticed about Malaysia was how green the countryside was. It was really beautiful, lots of palms and green, and a lot of mountains. The second thing we noticed right away was the price difference compared to Singapore. Malaysia was much more affordable. We arrived in the evening, and headed out later to a night market. Basically the night market was an entire street with mainly food and beverage stalls, there was so much life and activity. That was a big thing I noticed about Kuala Lumpur, the city seemed to come alive at night. It is generally very conservative- so I tried to dress appropriately as well, to blend in as much as possible. Some of the memorable moments include: street food markets, the Patronas towers, birthday cake and birthday salsa dancing, giant shopping centers, and lovely avocado milkshakes.   The main highlight for me would have to be the Batu Caves, a colorful Hindu religious site, which was an easy ride with public transit about 45 minutes outside of the city. Overall, it was probably our least favorite of the three destinations, but I think Malaysia has a lot to offer, and think getting out of the city to find some off the beaten path destinations would yield some incredible experiences!
