Weekend Camping in Belgium

One of my favorite things about Cologne, and Europe in general, is that is is so easy to get to other cities and even countries from here. We are about one hour away from the Dutch and Belgium borders. And thankfully train transportation in Germany is pretty awesome, so that you can 1. live without a car here, and 2. consciously travel easily and efficiently.

So we decided to pack our bikes and camping gear and hop on the train to the west towards Aachen (a border city here), from there we hopped on another train rode for about 15 minutes to Welkenraedt (Belgium), and from there used our bikes to go to the campground, nestled at the foot of a mountain near Hohes Venn National Park- a part of the Eifel national forest.

From Thursday to Sunday, only us, our bikes, a two man tent, nature, river, relaxation, and a digital detox. Life is so simple when you don't have a lot of stuff to fuss over. It was so relaxing. The campsite was directly next to the river so the constant sound of running water was also really soothing.

There was a narrow man made bridge from the campsite over the river to get to the hiking trails.

Definitely highly recommended. Check out more of our pics below from our weekend in nature.
