2020 Update
It has been way too long since I have posted, and now with the current circumstances, I find myself with a LOT more time on my hands, so I am finally getting around to update you all on whats been going on.
So first off, we moved to Berlin at the end of December. It was definitely not easy to leave our life in Cologne, especially since we have made so many good friends there. And leaving people behind is hard. Thankfully we didn't move too far away, so we will still be able to see our friends from time to time. We are already planning to be back in Cologne if all goes well this summer for two different weddings. Our friends were so great with helping us with the move, packing and hauling boxes for us, I am so grateful to have people like that in our lives.
Okay, now about Berlin. L has a cool new job with a startup, that seems to keep him pretty busy. I am not working at the moment, but I do have an offer, so let's see how that develops in the next weeks. The coronavirus is making things more difficult. But so far Berlin has been great. The people are a little colder than in Cologne, but I wouldn't say less friendly or nice, just not as approachable. The city itself is very dynamic, lots of things to do and see, you can be entertained just by riding around on the trains all day. There are a lot of people and the neighbourhoods have different feels to them. I think it will take us a long time to really feel like we know a lot of places here, because its just so big. The public transit is incredible. The longest I have had to wait was 10 minutes on a weekend, otherwise every few minutes another train is coming. Maybe a bit longer for the busses. We have also been to two different museums, the Deutsche Technik Museum and Hitler's Bunker Museum. I can highly recommend both.
We were also in Washington, back in the states for 3 weeks. Ah the joys of being home. On the one side you are totally happy and excited to see everyone, on the other side your parents treat you like you are still a 15 year old.... lol. So while it was a good visit, I was really happy to get back here. And we got lucky we didn't hit any travel problems, since we went in Februray. Overall, things are really good. I hope we get this virus situation sorted out though, because being cooped up is only fun for a couple of days, I'm getting a little stir crazy at the moment!
Stay healthy!
