Dresden, Germany...part 1
So..in Dresden, Germany for a much
needed get away!! The first two days were a little rough, with my jet-lag
in full force and even keeping me up all night the second day :( But
feeling better now, gaining more energy each day. So whats been going
on:
Feb 3- We took a long walk along the
Elbe river to the “blue wonder” bridge. Fed some ducks and some
other birds I have never seen before along the way. On the other side
of the blue wonder, we stopped at a cafe overlooking the river and
the bridge to have coffee, hot chocolate, and cake, yum! Then walked
back. Overall good, peaceful first full day.
Feb 4- Having had a sleepless night,
the day was pretty uneventful, lots of lying around. Felt better in the evening though, and we
went for dinner at this little spot (that you would never find unless you
live here), and the food was really great. I had this ravioli type pasta,
some stuffed with cheese, some with meat, cooked in sage butter, with
a yogurt dipping sauce, and a small salad (so good!). We ended
up at this free jazz concert, which also was pretty
amazing! Granted I have no clue what people are saying, but some
things are universal and don't need words.....good food and
good music....just to name a couple.
Feb 5- Today was the best day so far, just having had a good night sleep and more energy contributed a lot to that. So
we went hiking at Pfaffenstein, 30 or so minutes outside of the city,
and you drive up and it looks like a giant rock, with a forest on
top, in the middle of all this grass. So we took the “hard” way
to get up it, which consisted of 600 steps and a couple of ladders,
and a “needle eye” or very narrow pathway, it was pretty cool! So
at the top, there are more paths that you can explore, which we did. One of the main attractions here is the Barbarine is a pretty huge rock formation which has previously
been climbed by people since the 1930s, but is now off limits to
climbers because it was being destroyed with all the wear. The legend
goes on to say how it supposed to be a girl that was turned to stone,
if you look at it just the right way, you can see her. We spent about
2 hours up there exploring.

The next part of the day was so
relaxing, L told me we were going to a hot spring, so naturally I was
thinking, okay, somewhere outside, but no, ended up being a bath
house, “there are pools, hot spring, sauna, anddddd some
surprises.” A few miles down the road we ended up at Toskana
Therme, and it is a giant place filled with warm pools that go inside
and outside, hot tubs, baby pools, hot springs, saunas, and more! It
was awesome! My favorite part had to be the salt water hot spring,
you go into this separate room from the main pools, which is clearly
labeled “QUIET PLEASE” (yes they had it in english too) on the
entrance. So going inside the lighting is dark, and the pool lights up
different colors, changing every few minutes, plus there is a big white dome in the ceiling which also lit up with colors and
pictures. The best part was when L told me to put my ears under the
water...and.....music!! That you could only hear under the water!! So
you are laying there in this warm pool on your back, with your ears
under the water listening to the relaxing music, and watching the colors change
on the dome....it almost put me into a sort of trance! So..the
surprises...the saunas...lets just say...clothing was optional in
there! I think I got the full experience of a European bath house! I
don't know why we don't have places like that in the US, it was
really amazing!
Well that's the start of my trip so
far..keep tuned for more updates!
