Dresden part 2: sights of the city

Hi again!

Well where to start..... last weekend we had a party, got to meet a lot of L's friends, pretty awesome time. L had to go back to work, so on Monday I was...well...walking, walking, and walking around the city, I finally don't feel so lost anymore! Monday I walked for about 6 hours, taking random pictures. Went to an "American and British"store! Which had a box of cheerios in the window! Two malls, walked some more, fed ducks with some local kids, who were trying to talk to me, which as you can imagine....was a pretty one sided conversation. (Needless to say, I am excited for my German course to start next week) At a couple points during all this walking, I got the feeling of "ahhhh I'm lost!!". When in doubt of where you are going...follow the big crowd of people all walking in one direction!! I ended up at all the destinations I had planned to go, and some I hadn't planned to see. Another thing I found comfort in was seeing the other people with maps and cameras, and hanging around them, hearing some english, some other languages, but anyways there was a sort of silent camaraderie I felt knowing that they were in the same situation I was, no clue where they were going but enjoying the experience! It actually ended up being better than I anticipated, walking aimlessly listening to the sounds of the city, seeing interesting things, awesome day.

No matter where you travel to some things never change :)

So Tuesday, I planned my day better. I picked out two museums to go to if I had time. Well the first one was so big and amazing that I spent the entire day there and didn't make it to the second one. The Albertinum, has sculptures, and all sorts of paintings and art. It was spectacular!! Again another of those things that requires no language...art!!! Being around so many beautiful things and so much creativity was awe inspiring for me.

Today went to the Japanese palace, it's really beautiful on the outside. I was a little anxious when I first walked in because I was the only one in there...literally...there were supposed to be a couple museums in there, I found the first one fine, it was the Damascus room. Which was filled with textiles from places around the world. This was actually pretty cool, a little small but interesting. So seeing as this is a tourist destination, you would think they would speak some English, well, no! Not quite! (This is me praying for my German lessons to really hurry up and start!) I was completely fine in the first museum..then went to check out the second one. So again, I am the only person in sight here, up some creepy looking steps, and through a door that is all black, whew...okay it's two older ladies! Nothing too scary!! So I start trying to ask them for a ticket, and they start talking back in German, so I pull out my little German phrase book and start thumbing through it to find something helpful! I honestly don't even know what I was looking for!!!! So one of the ladies comes over and starts flipping through it, then after a couple of minutes she gives up on it! SO then..they start looking for English brochures! Which of course they can't find! Finally the lady who was flipping through my book, grabs my arm and leads me into the "museum" and says lookie lookie, and smiles!!! WOW!! It gets better, so this "museum" I thought I was going to was all in German, and it was something about the history of the rocks in Germany...all in all got to look at a few cool rocks but it took all of about 5 minutes through the whole thing!! On the way out, the ladies were giving me this..oh poor girl...look, we exchanged glances, I said danke, and we all started laughing! "Tschuss" or bye..they said, and I was off. Well, that was the first and probably last time I will go into the Japanese palace! Interesting experience, but could be a sign when you walk into a tourist destination and no one else is there, that either the place is not that good or maybe people just don't know about it or maybe because it's winter and there aren't as many tourists. Who knows!

Having a ton of memorable experiences, stay tuned for more!!
