The pursuit of happiness...part 2

"If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change"... Michael Jackson

On my search for "happiness", I got some advice from one of my best friends. She quoted MJ, and told me what helped her. She said that I need to start doing the things I want to do, and becoming the person I have always wanted to be. Her examples were doing things like recycling more, working out more, etc.

I decided to try what she recommended, and start on a path to becoming the person I had always wanted to be....eating healthier, working out more, traveling more,  talking to more people, not procrastinating, dancing salsa, playing team sports again, finding a church etc. Step two..do what you want to do!!!

The final piece, in my opinion, and the hardest, is forgiveness and letting go of the past. Not only forgiving those who have wronged you, but forgiving yourself. Letting go of those things from your past that you look back on and think...oh my gosh, what was wrong with me, why would I do that?? I found myself stuck until I finally decided to let go of the past, forgive those whom I was still holding a grudge against, and focus on my present time/situation. Weeding out the people who are not contributing positively to your life and dragging you back to the past. Surrounding yourself with a solid group of people who will pull you back up when you start to feel like your drowning again.

I did all this and then came to a moment, I remember it distinctly, in which I realized that I was truly happy with who I was, what I was doing, and the path my life was on!! And if things couldn't have gotten any better, I met my amazing bf, who just adds to my happiness!

All in all I believe happiness is not some unattainable fictional concept from fairy tales, but something real, something that we all can have.
